Story Of The Year

Story Of The Year

Don’t take this, don’t take this world away from me.

St. Louis Born

The group who refer to themselves as Story of the Year were founded in 1995 in the city of St. Louis Missouri. They would record many demos and pay their dues as a local rock n’ roll group until finally gaining success later down the road. The group has tagged themselves as indie rock and sometimes alternative but some say that they are more mainstream than anything else. They have a somewhat hard rock song although it has a mainstream rock n’ roll sound as well very similar to other groups of the day who wish to be tagged as harder rock groups but are really simply alternative rock n’ roll just slightly different than the sound that emerged in the early 2000’s.

Start Up

The group would release their first EP after seven years working at the local level of the music community. They would sign a record deal with Maverick Records in 2002 and would go on to release their first album called Page Avenue, which would release the first single off of the album called Until the Day I Die. The single would gain popularity on rock n’ roll stations and would go on to sell several thousand copies throughout the world. The album would go on to sell over nine hundred thousand copies across the globe and the group would record a music video of the single Our Dying Day, which was produced by Mr. Hahn who was with Linkin’ Park.

Also, the single called And the Hero Will Drown would be featured on a video game called Need for Speed. Story of the Year would go on to tour with Linkin’ Park on the Vans Warped Tour in 2004 where they would gain a larger following from these shows. The group would also release a DVD that was called Live in the Lou/Bassassins, which would be loved by their many fans and would end up achieving a gold status for its numerous sales.

Continued Success

The group would go on tour of the DVD and then go back into the studio after a long tour that ended in 2004. The next full length studio album that was to be released was called In the Wake of Determination and was released to stores in October of 2005. The album was said to have a heavier sound than their original material but it did not fair very well as far as sales although it would make it to number nineteen on the Billboard album charts.

The album had some politically charged lyrics concerning sexual preferences, which was said to indicate how one of the brothers of the band members was discriminated against for his sexual orientation. After an extensive tour across the continent of Australia, the group would held back to the studio to complete their next album called The Black Swan. The album did not receive that much acclaim nor sold near as many copies as their first album. The group switched to the Epitaph Record labels although this did not make much difference.

he group has said to have gone back to the studio to work on another album after they finished their tour in support of The Black Swan. Their many fans can find more information and history on the group at their official website, which will also have information and up and coming performances, tour dates and may have some of their music available as free music downloads or for internet screening.
