The group that would be known as
Suicidal Tendencies would be started in Venice California in 1981 by Mike Muir. The band is said to be one of the pioneers of crossover thrash. The group has released a number of albums throughout their career as well as many compilation albums as well. The group would rise to fame in early of 1983 and they would go on to produce what is said to be the first hardcore punk rock video of all time. They would ride the album and video for many years, finally coming back in the late 1980’s with a follow up album to their first record debut.
Life Worth Living
The group would begin their tour of the music world in 1983 where they would release their first studio album that would be self titled. The album would be an instant hit and was said to have taken them from virtually completely unknown to sensations in the hardcore punk industry overnight. The group would release
Suicidal Tendencies and ride this album for all of its success.
It is said that they were one of the first, if not the first thrash metal band of the decade and they would produce the first punk rock video of their punk genre of all time. The group would go on to release their next full length studio album in 1987 called
Join the Army. From this album they would gain the attention of Epic records that would go on to sign them and help them produce their next album. Their third album would be called
How Will I Laugh Tommorow When I Can’t Even Smile Today and would stir a number of critics as well as gain a solid number of fans due to their last few releases.
Cut Throat Industry
The rock n’ roll industry began to take over and their were numerous rumors that many in the band were unhappy. They would release tow more studio albums before they would eventually decide to call it quits and would officially disband. Many would simply think that the band just needed some time off and those that thought this would be right as the band would get back together in 1997. The plan was simple. The group was started as a party band and for fun and the enjoyment of music, which is what most of the members wanted to do. They would reform under this same issue.
Controversy Early
The group would have to deal with the religious right in the fact that many did not want their sons and daughters buying an album by a group who condoned suicide. During the same time as their formation, there was also rumor that the group was part of a street gang in Venice. There were numerous rumors surfacing about the group but the leader of the band would go on record many times saying that the group did not condone gang activity nor did they condone suicide.
