The Cult
The Cult
See them prancing, the come neighing, a horse nation…Welsh Born
The group that would be known to the world as
The Cult would form in the city of Monmouth in the province of Wales in the year of 1984. They would release their first album shortly after forming and would not look back as they took the rock n’ roll community and world by storm. The group would go on to be one of the legendary groups of the 1980’s in the category of rock n’ roll and still have many of their songs played to this day on classic and hard rock radio stations.
Crankin’ Up
The group would go on to record its first full length studio record called
Dreamtime at Rockfield Studios in Wales in the year of 1984. The album would contain songs such as
With Love and
Too Young but these songs would not garner much critical acclaim at the time of their release but would go on to make it on independent charts. However, later in the year the single called
Spiritwalker would be released to much fanfare and it would climb the charts to reach the number one position on independent charts in the United Kingdom.
This single was supposed to be somewhat of a teaser for their fans anticipation of the release of
Dreamtime although some would say that it almost over shadowed the album. The release of the album would bring them into the spotlight instantly and the album would also make it to the number twenty one position in the United Kingdom. The band would go on tour in support of the album and gain an instant following that would continue to grow with each stop through Europe.
Successful Singles
The group would continue to release songs and with their fourth single release called
She Sells Sanctuary in March of 1985, the group would have another single in the top twenty charts in the United Kingdom. It would actually re enter the charts later in 1986 for another brief stay of a couple of weeks. The album would go on to sell over one and one half of a million records making it one of the very few groups to have their debut album on the platinum list.
During this time, the group would make some lineup changes due to some personality conflicts and behavior issues but were quickly back at it when they would go back into the studio to begin work on their next album. They would begin work on their album and release the single called
Electric that would reach the number four position. They would go on tour to support the single and then back to the studio. Interestingly, the group would go on tour with an American band that was relatively unknown at the time but would become one of the most famous groups of the decade and were eventually known to the world as Guns N’ Roses.
Albums and Hits
The album
Electric would become one of their most successful albums and would go platinum in the country of Britain as well as sell over three million copies throughout the world although by the end of the touring it was said that the band could not stand each other and were in desperate need of a rest.
The group would go on to release a number of albums throughout the rest of their years and one may find free music downloads of their music or at least some of their songs for internet screening at websites online. One can visit their official website for more information on the group’s history.
