The sabbatical is over, thank god!

Black Sabbath are Rock gods. Ozzy Osbourne, despite everything – the reality TV, the drugs, the alcohol, the ridicule, is still a charismatic, phenomenal singer. And no one would have imagined that in 2013, Black Sabbath will be back, more than 40 years after they were formed, sounding vital and alive, and simply great.

The new album is produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, who has a knack for bringing heroes from the past back to the future, but the fact that Black Sabbath pulled it off so triumphantly is a testament to, well, perhaps the existence of god..?

The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s are back with a new song, album and video. Sacrilege is an infectious tune, and Karen O and the boys do their thing with the added bonus of a huge gospel choir. We can’t wait for their next album to drop next week! Check it out on Bearshare

We absolutely love you

We join the party as the world celebrates the triumphant return of one of its greatest musicians and performers ever, David Bowie. His new album, The Next Day, was released more than 10 years after his latest studio effort, and the worldwide consensus is that it is a great album.

We take the opportunity to go back to Bowie’s rich discography, cherry picking this tune from 1986, which is a vintage  Bowie track. Moving, grand, layered with meanings and irresistible. It’s the lead song from a movie with the same name, but stands on its own as one of David Bowie’s finest pop moments ever.

Buggage reclaim

Grammy winners, Fun., are releasing a new video from their latest album. It’s a magical tale of a lost suitcase – you really have to watch it through to understand. No doubt the video taps into one of our most primal fears – losing our luggage at the airport. Stepping out of the passport control, after a long flight, and waiting for the suitcase to come out of that underground suitcases cave – only to wait there forever and see nothing coming out! At least this video has a happy ending :)

Grammy winners!

The Grammys were all the rage last night, and despite no clear winners, there were a few heroes at this annual celebration of the music industry. Big up to Mamford and Sons, Skrillex, Fun., Adele, Kelly Clarkson, Usher and the rest of the winners, and of course Justin Timberlake, with his triumphant return to stage. But the night belonged mostly to Gotye and The Black Keys, who grabbed 3 Grammys each.

Here’s The Black Keys with Lonely Boy, and see you next year at Grammys 2013!

The man who was sold out on the world

Posted by DJ • February 03, 2013 at 09:48 AM

Every week, more or less, we post here a 90′s throwback track. And talking about the 90′s without mentioning Nirvana is by all accounts, a serious crime. So let us amend this by posting this track from Nirvana’s legendary unplugged session for MTV, covering David Bowie’s “The Man Who sold the World”.

It’s important to point out that Nirvana’s place in history was secured even before Kurt Cobain sadly took his on life. The band was perhaps the most pivotal act to break alternative music into the mainstream, paving the way for acts like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, R.E.M, Radiohead and many others.

She’s a Bitch. In a good way

Next to the strong messages from Alanis Morissette,  all- female punk bands and female RnB singers, you could also find this one-hit wonder by Meredith Brooks. “Bitch” may have a provocative sound to it, but compared to many rap tunes, the word has an empowering ring to it here, and is not used to humiliate women, which is a good thing, obviously. Anyway, despite not reaching the top of the charts back in the 90′s, this song is still one of biggest hits of the era. Take it for a spin!

One more from Bowie

We’re so excited to have a new song from David Bowie that we decided to post another Bowie track. This is “Fame”, from 1975, a song which was actually composed and performed with John Lennon. It’s one of Bowie’s funkiest moments – it was even quoted by the king of funk himself, James Brown

Commencing countdown, engines on!

Last week, January 8th was a day of celebration. Not only was it David Bowie’s birthday, but the singer, musician and legend released a new single, the first in 10 years, and announced a new album in a couple of months.

The song, “Where Are We Now?”, is vintage Bowie – referencing to his Berlin period, and sounding deep and beautiful. Welcome back David, looking forward to your new album!

Ever Green?

Green Day has been with us for over 25 years now (OMG!) and had a few good runs of success. They are currently ending 2012 with a bang, releasing no less than three albums, titled: Uno, Dos and, naturally, Tre. We are posting here one of the videos from these albums, the excellent “Stray Heart”, and for good measures, we added one of Green Day’s most recognizable songs, “Good Riddance” (also known as “The Time of Your Life”).

Here’s for another 25 years of Green Day, and head over to Bearshare to grab lost of Green Day goodies!
