Her mush publicized marriage and then divorce from singer Nick Lachey sometimes completely eclipsing everything else. But she is a multi-platinum selling recording artist with her album sales touching the 10 million mark world wide. She has also starred in a few feature films, advertising commercial and several TV shows. Her concert tours have also been very successful. Yet somehow Jessica Simpson does have a habit of attracting criticism and controversy. Jessica Simpson was born and raised in Texas and before the age of 16 she had already recorded a self-titled album which never saw the light of day. Her then record label went bankrupt before releasing the album. But funded by her grandmother she did press some albums which were circulated and she received a lot of attention. None other than Sony Music head honcho Tommy Mottola.

By 1999 she released her debut single and soon followed it up with her album "Sweet Kisses". The album dance pop music got mixed critical reviews. She was the opening act of label mate Ricky Martin and also toured with boy band 98 Degrees. It is where she met Nick Lachey from 98 Degrees and began dating. The album backed by constant touring had gone double platinum. Columbia Records executives were looking for an image make over for Jessica. They opted for the sexy-chic image which suited her most. Her next album "Irresistible" released in 2001. The title track peaked at no.15 on US 100 and the video was also a hit on MTV. After the initial buzz, generally positive reviews and a lot of promotion the album was still commercial disappointment.

It was during this time that she gained a lot of publicity marrying Nick Lachey after dating for over 2 years. They starred on the MTV reality show Newlyweds which showed their marriage was a phenomenal success. The gaffe prone Simpson had now become a star.

It was during this she also released her third album "In the Skin", as she was now a star the album skyrocketed to the top 10 on US charts peaking at No.2 and eventually selling 3 million copies. The album did not receive critical acclaim but it still was her best selling effort. The very sensuous "Sweetest Sin" with its downbeat rhythm and the now famous video with her husband was a huge hit and reached No.6 on the US singles chart.

2005 was a busy year as she also starred in a movie Dukes of Hazard and contributing the lead track "These Boots were Made Walking" which peaked at no.14.A very public break up between the celebrity couple, public support and sympathy were split. Nick somehow managed to get more support. Jessica quickly moved in to recording sessions to release her fourth album. The record released in 2006 "Public Affair" was the first after the divorce. Many had viewed that she songs would be personal and influenced by her the trials in her personal life. But the music was anything like - in fact it was disappointment. It peaked at No.5 US charts and has since been certified Gold.

After another movie and several high profile romances the lady returned with "Do you Know" billed as return to country roots. It was minor success with no.1 on the Country charts; however the critical reception to the album were scathing. The album has not even chart on the US 200. Even though country legend Dolly Parton wrote the duet Do you know it did not manage to spark the album. On the contrary the critics clearly slammed the pairing and the difference in the talent.

In March 2010 it was reported that Jessica Simpson will be returning back to Reality TV with a new show and a focus on movies with more performance and edgier roles. Her music career seems to have taken a back seat though reports do suggest that she might record in the latter half of 2010
