Maroon 5
Maroon 5 – The Pop/Rock Sensation
The Long and Winding Road
Maroon 5 have also won a Grammy for Best New Artist. The band is considered to be the most successful artist of the digital download era. Their music draws as much from the melodies of Bee Gees and Stevie Wonder to the rock sensibilities of Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Police. It is this sort of amalgamation of different genres of music with catchy riffs and somewhat cliched lyrics which have made the band sell 15 million albums. The bands lead singer and primary song writer Adam Levine is one of the hottest rock stars on MTV.
The Early Grunge Years
Even though Adam and Jesse moved to the East Coast to pursue college, Ryan and Mickey stayed back at UCLA. The band still vowed to return after college. It was during the time in NYC that Adam and Jesse discovered hip-hop and pop music. Something they had never been exposed to. They knew a sound which fuses different genres would be successful. On returning the LA and with new energy the band recorded new material with a brand new musical direction. They were signed on by small label Octone Records’ after changing the name the band recorded and released their first album. They also added a new lead guitar player James Valentine to the group
Songs about Jane
The pop melody of the song with its opening vocals sung on a catchy guitar riff breaks into a strong rhythm section was among the bands finest moment. The album has sold almost 5 million records in the US alone. Lyrically incorporates sexual and love themes. The album name is derived from Adam’s girlfriend Jane.
The bands new found fame saw them go on a tour for almost a year. Building on the success of the album, the band got the prestigious opening slot for the Bigger Bang US tour of The Rolling Stones.
The Sophomore Effort
After opening for their favorite The Police who were on a reunion tour they went on the “It Won't Be Soon Before Long World Tour". The second album was a tighter sounding album using heavy production. Critically the album was appreciated more than the first one. The music is more ambitious and every effort had been taken to ensure it is a bigger hit. Working with ensemble of producers, the band took almost 2 years to record the album.
The album has sold 7 million copies world-wide. The world tour was another success and Adam Levine and the boys worked with hip-hop sensation Rihana as a collaboration which won them a Grammy nomination
