Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne- The Punk Girl Mania
Avril in Wonderland
The Canadian Connection
Her first album "Let Go" was pop gem. Backed by a powerful band and some cool videos the album made it to the Top 10 at US charts. The album has sold nearly 16 million copies world wide. Brilliantly produced, album was a 17 year old girl being reaching out to the world with her sensitivity, anger and talent. Her drive to be taken seriously and not another teen-pop idol is evident from the track "Complicated". This overnight sensation went on a world tour promoting her album and appeared extensively on video music television. Her live shows saw her play the guitar and her "cool rebel" image with that infectious smile was perfect.
The Sophomore and Beyond
She also went on a world tour starting with performing at malls in the US. The world tall called Bonez Tour is reference to a question she was asked on what is under her skin to which she had replied Bonez. The tour takes her across North America, Japan, Australia, Europe and even Africa. That nearly two year jaunt is very successful and cements has superstar status.
Her third album "The Best Damn Thing" released in April of 2007 is another platinum selling effort. It debuts no.1 in the US and UK.
Though the album is not a complete change in pace but it seems Avril has an understated humor side as well. Happily sprinkling profanity and four letter words all over her album. Plagiarism allegations for "Girlfriend" aside the catchy punk pop tunes continue and so does the clichéd lyrics. Commercially the album is not as big as the last two efforts and it shows. The album does sound a bit rushed, but she has the mallrats loving every bit of it.
The tour is another long one playing for almost the entire of 2007 and visiting Mexico and the usual familiar territories. But she does manage to play "The Garden" during the promotional leg. The tour sees her play bigger venues go deeper into Asia where she enjoys the most die-hard fans. Playing stadiums like in Shanghai and Tokyo
Avril Lavigne has truly established herself as one of the biggest solo artists in the world. The highly anticipated fourth album is due in the summer of 2010.
