Bon Jovi

I’m a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride, and I’m wanted…yeah I’m wanted…dead…

Jersey Kid

Started in the city of New Jersey, Jon Bon Jovi would form the band in the city of Sayerville New Jersey in the late 1960’s. He would begin playing the guitar as well as the piano in 1975 and would start his first band called Raze at the age of thirteen years old. He would meet David Bryan and form a cover band called Atlantic City Expressway and began playing clubs in the New Jersey area unchaperoned.

He would eventually quit the band and go on to work part time at various jobs as well as taking a job at a studio where he would begin recording demos and singles along with meeting music legend Billy Squier. Although he would produce a number of songs, none would get picked up and he would be without a contract; however, his persistence would pay off.

Running Away

After rejection would be seemingly around every corner, the singer would take one last chance and visit a local radio station to try and get some of his songs some airplay. After visiting the WAPP radio stations, he would get a little time on the radio from his song called Runaway, that would be featured on the stations home grown talent segment. After a few plays, the song started to get airplay on other stations as well, which would in turn prompt him to call up members to begin forming a band.

The group would go on to create their first full length studio album that was self titled and would be released in January of 1984. The single recorded earlier called Runaway would be the album’s first hit single. They would go on a localized tour of the album and then go back into the studio to release their second full length studio album called 7800 Farenheit. The album did not receive the reception that they had wanted but it would afford the group to go back on tour and make some money in order to try again.

While on the road, they would be afforded another chance to begin headlining venues in Europe as well as Japan. They would also go on tour with the popular band called Ratt although they would form their own headlining tour through the United States.

Glimpse of Success

The group would go back into the studio with the release of their third album called Slippery When Wet that was produced by Bruce Fairbaim and would prove to be their break through to success. The group would release their first single off of the album called You Give Love A Bad Name, which would be their first number one single in the United States. The second released single from the album called Livin’ On A Prayer would also make it to the number one position on the Billboard charts during the same year.

The group would gain international acclaim for their album and be a staple of the MTV playlist. Their album would spend a total of at least eight weeks on the Billboard album charts at the number one position and they would win the Best Stage Performance MTV Video Music Award. The group would go on tour in 1987 where they would headline a total of one hundred and thirty shows. They would go on to release numerous more albums over the course of their career and are still playing as of the present.
